What to Expect

On arrival at our premises you will first meet one of our receptionists, either Roisin or Margo. You will already have been asked some basic questions when making your booking, such as address, date of birth and contact details and, if you are new to the clinic, you will now be asked to sign a form consenting to treatment. Following this you will then see one of our osteopaths in their private consulting room. Under 18s will need to be accompanied by an adult. You will need to bring a large towel with you.

Prior to treatment the osteopath will ask you some further questions regarding the complaint that you are attending the clinic with. He will also ask you about your past medical history and current state of health in order to ensure it is safe for you to be treated. You may be asked to remove some clothing to enable examination of the area that is causing discomfort. This helps with a thorough examination and will also help the osteopath treat the area of complaint without restrictions.

The treatment itself consists of soft tissue manipulation of tense musculature and mobilisation of restricted joints as necessary. As a result, the treatment itself can be painful as structures are being moved and worked on for the greater good of movement and restoring normal range of motion in order to decrease pain in the longer term. At the end of a session the osteopath will give you some information regarding methods to improve function and decrease pain, which can be done at home. Due to the nature of our treatment approach you will always have some discomfort post treatment, usually lasting for a day or two. Everybody is unique so the discomfort will always differ from one person to another and advice on how to manage this will also be given by the osteopath.

Following treatment the Osteopath will let you know if you will need to return to the clinic and, if needed, this will be arranged for you by reception prior to your departure.

We hope this gives you some insight into our approach and what to expect when you attend the clinic.

As always if you have any questions please contact the clinic and have a chat with Roisin, Margo or one of our osteopaths.
